YOY Named

Youth of the Year Winner Announced 2014

On April 10th, more than 300 guests joined BGCAA for the 25th Annual Ed Casey Youth of the Year Awards Dinner. At the dinner Danae Cannedy from the Freetown Village Boys & Girls Club was named the 2014 Youth of the Year. Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. As Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier youth recognition program, the Youth of the Year title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome.

All six Youth of the Year winners on the Club level received a citation from the Anne Arundel County Council and a tablet computer. In addition the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County is providing a $1,000 college scholarship to Danae.

Danae plans to attend Lake Forest College in Illinois this Fall as a pre-law major. She was selected from a pool of six candidates chosen by their community clubs as local Youth of the Year winners: Paul Johnson, 14, of Annapolis Gardens; Arthur Slade, 14, of Bywater; Antonique Williams, 16, of Wiley H. Bates Heritage Park; Brittany Taylor, 18, of Admiral Oaks; and Janel Adkins, 17, of Meade Village.
