Character & Leadership Development

Helping youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process is the main thrust of these programs. They also develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making, contributing to Club and community and celebrating our national heritage.
Keystone Clubs
Keystone Clubs are chartered small group leadership development clubs for young people ages 14 to 18. Keystoners elect officers, choose their own activities and plan and implement community service projects. The Keystone program is a leadership skills, explore careers and educational opportunities, provide service to their Club and community, learn about the free enterprise system, cultivate awareness and an appreciation of others and enhance their social skills. The national charter entitles a Keystone Club to participate in regional and national Keystone conferences. Funded by the Taco Bell Foundation.

Youth of the Year
The Youth of the Year is the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. Being named Youth of the Year (YOY) is the highest honor any Boys & Girls Club member can achieve. Each year, one exceptional Club member is selected to be the local Youth of the Year with the opportunity to progress to the state, regional and national levels. YOY candidates embody the values of leadership, service, academic excellence and healthy lifestyles; they exemplify the critical impact of Boys & Girls Clubs on the lives of young people. Through the YOY program, young people showcase their talents and achievements, share their hopes and dreams, and work toward a bright and positive future.
Torch Club
This small-group leadership development program, sponsored by Staples, is targeted to youth ages 11 to 13. Within some 700 Torch Clubs across the country, members elect officers and plan and implement their own activities and community service projects. Each Torch Club receives an official charter from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Delta Academy 
The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy (Delta Academy) is a national initiative that serves girls age 11-14. The Delta Academy provides educational and enrichment activities to girls at a crucial time in their development.  The program focuses on self-esteem, community service, educational achievement, leadership development, and physical & psychological well-being while preparing young girls for full participation as leaders in the 21st Century.
