Nationwide more than 26% of school-age children are left on their own after school. It is no surprise then that the hours between 3pm and 6pm are the peak hours for juvenile crime and experimentation with drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and other risky behavior.

Seeing this trend the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BGCAA) was founded in 1988 by a group of concerned community members who felt there was a need for neighborhood youth to have a positive place to grow, learn and have fun.  Since then, BGCAA has expanded to five Club locations and remains in the forefront of youth development, working with all youth, including those from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances to achieve one mission: to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

BGCAA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all youth from the ages of 6 to 18 have access to affordable afterschool, and out-of-school, programs. Clubs are open every day after school from 2pm to 7pm, during school breaks, and during the summer, when youth are most likely to engage in unsupervised and risky behavior.

BGCAA reaches more than 2,200 youth every year in three Annapolis Clubs, and Clubs in Pasadena and Severn. Membership is $20 for the entire school year and Summer Camp is $250 - $300 for the entire 8 week session.

BGCAA is part of the “Boys & Girls Club Movement” which annually serves nearly 4 million young people, through membership and community outreach, in some 4,000 Club facilities throughout the country and Youth Centers on U.S. military installations worldwide.

BGCAA is dedicated to providing a world-class Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who walks through our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.

To see this vision become a reality, BGCAA follows the Formula for Impact, a research-based theory of change that describes how individual Clubs and the Movement as a whole will increase their impact - exponentially - on the young people of America. Formula for Impact helps ensure that members achieve our priority outcomes of Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. It represents the five key elements for positive youth development:
 • A safe, positive environment
 • Fun
 • Supportive relationships
 • Opportunities and expectations
 • Recognition

It is a roadmap designed to ensure that all members have a life-changing Club Experience, and leave the Club knowing they will have a great future.

Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun.
It is the place where great futures are started each and every day!
